Mired in a horrendous slump since he was sent down to Triple A Iowa, former Cubs starting center fielder Felix Pie finally showed a little life, going 2-5 with a homer to inch his batting average a tad beyond the .150 plateau.
Demoted from his customary leadoff role to hit in the No. 2 hole for Iowa during his recent struggles, Pie's long ball paced his team in an 8-2 victory over Nashville.
Pie has been a major disappointment during two extended looks in Chicago. While still a legitimate prospect, the 175-pound Dominican speedster bears the extra burden of the "undrafted free agent" label, a disadvantage the Cubs thought was behind after he formerly had produced stellar stats at various minor league levels.
